The Mangum Fire is rapidly spreading on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon because of extreme fire weather. The fire is now at 14,800 acres and has prompted evacuations of the North Rim Village, Jacob Lake and Highways 67 and 89A. (Photo/USFS)

The Mangum Fire was pushed north June 13 by strong gusting south winds. Blowing embers created spot fires up to one half mile ahead of the main fire, breaching control lines. Ten additional linear miles were added to the fire’s length yesterday.
