SPRINGDALE, Utah — Hikers going to Angels Landing in Zion National Park will need a permit on or after April 1, which will be issued by the National Park Service using online lotteries at Recreation.gov.
Zion National Park will be closing Angels Landing Trail April 7 through, April 8, for maintenance on the chain sections of the trail. The trail should reopen by 4:30 p.m. April 8.
Local leaders had called for the closure, and Gov. Gary Herbert said he consulted with the Interior Department to make the decision.
Zion National Park officials say a hiker found dead at the bottom of a popular trail bordered by steep drops was a concession employee at the park in southern Utah.
