The leader of the largest Native American reservation in the U.S. signed legislation Nov. 6 to ban indoor smoking in many locations, including the tribe’s casinos.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Casinos run by the Navajo Nation plan to temporarily lay off more than 1,100 workers starting Jan. 1 because of prolonged closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — The Navajo Nation’s gambling operation had hoped to reopen its casinos in mid-June but they’ll stay closed until at least early July because of the coronavirus outbreak.
