WILLIAMS, Ariz. — Conveniently located off Grand Canyon Boulevard, Josh and Heather Hollenbeck have opened their doors at Copperstate Equipment and Repair.

Originally from Payson and with a desire to be closer to family, the couple packed their bags and moved to Williams in October 2022. Less than a year later in August 2023 they established their company and opened up shop.

With Josh’s expertise in contracting and Heather’s skill in customer service, the two work together well to reliably fix up small engines and rent out light-to-medium construction materials.

Before moving to town, Josh was a cable lineman for Optimum, working projects in Flagstaff and Payson, but later felt a calling to move closer to family and step out of corporate work.

"After working for the cable company, I was kind of distraught and mentally beat down spiritually,” Josh said.

Looking for a new line of work that he could feel passionate about, his brother-in-law, Cameron Maebe, inspired him to open a business in Williams.

“It was all essentially Cameron,” Heather said. “He told us that this is something the town needs.”

With demand for their business, the Hollenbecks began looking for a location in Williams and received a helping hand from Daniel Sutton of Sutton Plumbing on North Grand Canyon Boulevard. Sutton offered to work with the Hollenbecks to lease the office next door and get the space ready for their equipment.

“(Daniel) pretty much corroborated the rental side of the (outside space) and then everything else just followed along,” Josh said.

Copperstate’s mission is to empower small contractors and Williams-area residents to keep their projects on track. That means when equipment is needed on the spot, Copperstate is there to provide residents and contractors rentals for things like concrete saws, jumping jacks and mini excavators. Copperstate also does small engine repairs for things like lawnmowers, weed eaters and generators, with the idea of getting people back to work

Down the road, the duo decided to sell Five Star sheds from their location to help residents with a place to store their extra belongings.

Copperstate also serves as an authorized U-Haul truck rental center. Residents can depend on them for all the usual moving supplies including boxes, bubble wrap, tape and moving blankets.

Finding a niche in a small town like Williams can prove to be difficult, but the Hollenbecks have made it work and have been happy serving the community so far.

“We kind of made a leap,” Josh said. “But it’s been enlightening, this town is really great.”

Copperstate Equipment and Repair is located at 620 North Grand Canyon Boulevard in Williams. They can be reached at (928) 295-5956.
