Locomotive No. 6 joins railroad museum
Arizona State Railroad Museum Foundation recently received another piece of rolling stock for the museum’s exhibits. Magma Copper Co./San Manuel Arizona RR General Electric 25-ton locomotive No.6 arrived at the Arizona Railroad Heritage Park site in Williams on a lowboy trailer Oct. 23. When declared surplus by Magma it was sold and operated at the Port of Duluth in Minnesota. In turn it was declared surplus by the port and donated to the Arizona State Railroad Museum Foundation. Originally purchased new by Magma in 1964 it has returned home to Arizona and will join currently owned Magma RS3 No. 3 as the center pieces for the Museum’s mining railroad exhibit. It is still in its original 60-year old paint scheme and technically operational. No. 6 will receive necessary mechanical work and other restoration. (Photos/Al Richmond)
