WUSD School Board approves $270,000 in playground renovations
WILLIAMS, Ariz. — The Williams Unified School District (WUSD) Governing Board held their first meeting of the year Jan. 13.
During the meeting, board member John Romero was reelected as president and Carla Dent was reelected as board vice-president.
In other school board news:
The board voted to approve renovations and safety upgrades to both WEMS playgrounds with Dave Bang Associates Inc. The $270,000 project was budgeted as part of WUSD’s three-year capital plan and is coming from their capital expenditures account.
“We’re going to do some long overdue updates to our playground to make it safer for all the kids who use it,” said WUSD Superintendent Eric Evans.
The board also voted to approve the retirement of Phillip Echeverria as the WUSD athletic director and Williams High School (WHS) physical education teacher as of June 30, 2023.
Evans and the board look forward to the new year.
“It’s exciting, it’s energizing. There’s kind of a renewed vigor and energy with the new year. And of course, with a couple new faces on the board,” Evans said. “It’s good to know that everybody who I’ve spoken to who’s a new face on the board has their heart and their mind all in the right place. They want Williams and Williams Unified to be a top notch, premier school district.”
