Home Rule returns to Tusayan
Greg Brush to serve as newest council member
TUSAYAN, Ariz — The Tusayan Town Council announced Nov. 18 that the Alternative Expenditure Limitation, better known as Home Rule has passed.
Home Rule allows towns across Arizona, including Tusayan, to set their own budget, versus adhering to the state-imposed spending limit.
According to the council, utilizing Home Rule will allow the town to spend an estimated $15 million of its revenue for general government, public safety, planning and development, utilities and capital improvements, versus a state-imposed total of $8 million for fiscal year 2021.
Tusayan will operate under Home Rule for the next four years, with slight increases estimated to occur in regards to spending with each new fiscal year, as revenue is projected to slowly climb as tourism numbers are restored to the area.
The council also announced the results of the Nov. 3 election, declaring Greg Brush its newest council member. Brush, currently serves as the Tusayan Fire Chief and has been resident of Tusayan since 2003. He will serve a four year term with the council.
