Grand Canyon PSAR volunteer cares for those in need
Grand Canyon National Park recognized Bob Wais, a volunteer member of the Grand Canyon National Park Preventive Search and Rescue team July 26 for his efforts helping visitors on the Bright Angel Trail.
The park reported that Wais was hiking the Bright Angel trail July 15 assisting visitors suffering from heat illness. After standard cooling, rest and monitoring food and water intakes did not work, Wais called for additional assistance from park EMTs and paramedics to provide further care to the two hikers. Wais stayed late into the night with the team and assisted with the litter carry necessary to get one of the hikers, who had not improved, out of the Canyon.
