Kadampa World Peace Temple east of Williams now open to the public
WILLIAMS, Ariz. — The International Kadampa Retreat Center Grand Canyon and Kadampa World Peace Temple is now fully open to the public and is offering a variety of meditation classes, courses and retreats in modern Kadampa Buddhism.
The retreat first opened its doors in June 2017, however, construction of the temple has been underway for several years.
The temple is located 9.5 miles east of Williams along I-40. It seats nearly 1,000 people and host many programs throughout the year to appeal to a range of guests.
According to the retreat, the spiritual program at IKRC Grand Canyon is led by the resident teacher, Gen-la Kelsang Jampa, an ordained Buddhist monk and the deputy spiritual director of the New Kadampa Tradition. As a senior teacher, Gen-la Jampa has taught internationally for many years.
Programs take place on Sundays from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. The IKRC offers both an adult and children’s meditation classes; introducing the practice of meditation as well as practical advice on topics such as dealing with anger, improving relationships, and overcoming distractions. The IKRC will also hold various free public talks throughout the year.
On March 14 from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Gen-la Jampa will speak on the topic: ‘A Life of Less Worry - How to overcome Stress & Anxiety.’
Additionally, a Friday night ‘Food for Thought’ program will include a short talk and guided meditation emphasizing the development of inner peace followed by a delicious vegetarian meal.
The IKRC Grand Canyon is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the development of world peace through cultivating inner peace, according to the center.
Whether it is to attend a guided meditation, temple tour, retreat or just to walk around the peaceful environment and enjoy the cafe and bookstore, everyone is welcome.

Open House Feb. 29
The retreat will be hosting an Open House and Free Pancake Breakfast Feb. 29, from 8 a.m. – noon. Visitors are invited to learn about the special architectural design of the Kadampa World Peace Temple, as well as the significance of the sacred art on the inside and outside of the building. The center invites visitors to participate in a 15 minute guided breathing meditation for calming the mind. (Meditations are 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.). Adjacent to the property is the Kaibab National Forest where guests can enjoy a peaceful walk with spectacular views of the neighboring mountains.
