A health fair and open house takes place Sept. 24 at the North Country HealthCare Clinic in Williams.

WILLIAMS, Ariz. —Williams residents can get free health screenings and information at North Country HealthCare Williams’ health fair and open house.

The free event is Saturday, September 24 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Williams Clinic, 301 S. Seventh St. Clinic Supervisor Mary Case said people can come and go to the event as they please.

“It’s our open house and it’s a thank you for everyone for everything they have done throughout the year,” she said. “The open house lets people walk around on a day when they’re feeling good and not feeling sick.”

This year will be the 24th annual health fair. Case explained that the event started in the 1990s when the community approved a tax subsidy to help the clinic offer urgent care services after hours.

Those attending the health fair will receive a free cholesterol screening.

“It’s a joyful time with a festive atmosphere,” Case said. “We’ll have information to share with community members about (how) some services are free and discounted – as much help as we can give to people.”

Free blood pressure and glucose checks will also be available.

Multiple agencies will participate as vendors at this year’s fair. Vendors will include the Coconino County Health Department, Life Line Ambulance, the Williams Kiwanis Club, the Williams Senior Center, Williams Weight Watchers, Williams Police Department, heart, eye and skin specialists, and the North Country Outreach Department, including women’s health, HIV and dental representatives.

“We invite some of the specialists that we refer our patients to and they come with a table and information and answer questions,” Case said. “Sometimes it’s nice to meet on a face to face basis a day when you’re not feeling sick.”

In addition, representatives will be on hand to provide information about information about KidsCare, AHCCCS, SNAP and the Marketplace.

Tours of the clinic will also be available.

“The main reason the health fair is put on every year is because the Williams Clinic and the hospital board want to thank the members of our community for all their support in using our services,” Case said. “They can see the services and some of the agencies that also serve our Williams people.”

Health fair attendees can also enter to win raffle prizes and free giveaways. A blood drive hosted by United Blood Services and mammograms by Assured Imaging will take place.

“People can walk in for either of those or make an appointment,” Case said. “Appointments are preferred but not required.”

The Williams Lions Club will provide refreshments for the event and Miss Teen Coconino County will be doing face painting.

Additionally, the Williams Community Resource Guide, which provides local service agencies and resources, will be available.

“We have printed out one per family for the city of Williams,” Case said. “So we’ll have those that we’ll be giving out as well.”

North Country HealthCare serves as the medical home for nearly 50,000 people throughout northern Arizona, 20,000 who reside in Flagstaff and the surrounding area. North Country HealthCare accepts Medicare, AHCCCS, commercial insurance and offers a sliding fee scale based on income and family size.
