WILLIAMS, Ariz. - The Williams Clean and Beautiful Committee's next community cleanup day takes place May 7. The committee is also accepting items at the rodeo barn and transfer stations that day.

Volunteers for the pickup should meet in the Babbitt-Polson stage parking lot behind the Williams Visitor Center at 9 a.m. with their hats and gloves. Williams Clean and Beautiful will provide trash bags.

Residents can also use cleanup day to tidy up areas that aren't on the official route.

Clean and Beautiful Committee member Carol Glassburn said it is important for people to take pride in how Williams looks.

The committee is providing hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda until noon. There will also be coffee and pastries. Easter eggs with treasures will be hidden along the cleanup routes.

Besides the trash pickup, residents can also recycle and dispose of household waste on cleanup day.

Secure off-site shredding and e-waste recycling takes place at the rodeo grounds from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common e-waste products. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.

Automobile tires (off the rim) can be dropped off at the transfer station between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. No large truck or off road tires will be accepted.

The city of Williams is also offering a free large appliance removal service from May 7-14. Each household will be allowed one free appliance pickup. Residents need to request a work order from the city at (928) 635-4451.

For Coconino County residents with identification, hazardous waste can be accepted in Flagstaff. In an effort to provide timelier customer service, Flagstaff Household Hazardous Waste Center accepts 40 gallons (400 pounds) of residential waste per visit at 6770 E. Landfill Road. They are open Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information is available at (928) 527-9005.

Organizers thanked the American Legion Cordova Post #13, Arizona Public Service, the city of Williams Recreation Department, city of Williams Sanitation Department, Coconino County Solid Waste, E-Green IT Solutions, Grand Canyon Coffee and Cafe, Grand Canyon Railway, I-40 Fleet Services, Mako Shred, Waste Management, Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and the Clean and Beautiful Committee for their help with the event.
