Williams Art Scene: second Saturday Art Walk brings art to Williams

The new year is bringing new energy to the creative community in Williams, with learning and viewing opportunities available throughout the year.

The most prominent, and most festive, is the multi-month Williams Second Saturday Art Walk, in which a party atmosphere prevails all along our little slice of Route 66 while the producers and purveyors of all forms of art throw open their doors and their hospitality to locals and visitors alike.

Staged the second Saturday of every month from spring to fall, (May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 9) the event not only introduces the public to the art, but the venues to the public as well.

Promoted by word-of-mouth, distribution of thousands of flyers, newspaper coverage and segments on National Public Radio (NPR), the Williams second Saturday Art Walk is a uniquely successful community event that brings folks together and provides a lot of fun while doing so. Venue reservations are available, as is promotional space on distributed flyers.

And that isn't all the Williams Alliance for the Arts (WAFTA) has been up to recently. Before the season settles, you'll see more free art workshops for local youth and seniors. And the photography/identity project for eighth graders, part of the Arts in Schools program. And theater in school, same program. And Youth Art Month in March, with art prominently displayed at The Gallery in Williams, and Old Trails Hardware. And an enhanced music program in schools. And the Open Studios Tour coming up in June.
