TUSAYAN, Ariz. - On Aug. 3 Grand Canyon National Park Airport held a triennial disaster drill. The drill tests the airport's emergency plan in case of a large-scale disaster. Airport personnel and its tenants have response responsibilities under this plan along with local emergency responders. According to Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), these types of drills are required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in order to maintain eligibility for FAA grant funding and airport status. Dozens of volunteers participated in the exercise, included airport staff, emergency responders and volunteers acting as victims.
