Williams fall cleanup day set for Saturday
Volunteers encouraged to meet at Williams Visitor Center at 9 a.m.
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - The Williams Clean and Beautiful Committee's next community cleanup day takes place Sept. 19.
Volunteers should meet in the Williams and Williams Visitor Center parking lot at 9 a.m. with their hats and gloves. Williams Clean and Beautiful will provide trash bags.
The main cleanup areas will be around Grand Canyon Boulevard, Rodeo Road, and the cemetery. Residents can also use cleanup day to tidy up areas that aren't on the official route.
As an incentive to participate, volunteers can be on the lookout for Easter eggs hidden along the cleanup route with coupons for cash prizes.
Sponsors will provide coffee and pastries for volunteers in the morning and soda and water along the cleanup route. A barbecue for volunteers with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and sodas will take place at noon in the Visitor Center parking lot.
Besides the trash pick up, residents can also recycle and dispose of several items on cleanup day.
Household batteries can be dropped off at the sign up table at cleanup day. Old tires from automobiles and light truck tires will be accepted for disposal free from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the transfer station. Truck tires and off road tires will not be accepted. Tires must be off the rims.
Large appliance removal will take place Sept. 19-26 at the Williams Transfer Station, located at 800 E. Rodeo Road. The transfer station is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. People may schedule an appointment for large appliance removal from home at no cost by calling the city of Williams at (928) 635-4451 so that a work order can be placed. The appliance needs to be placed in front of the residence, as close to the curb as possible but not in the street.
