WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Williams Lady Vikes notched another win after beating Rough Rock Oct. 15. The Vikings are now 6-0 in their section and 11-4 for the season.

The Lady Vikes took control early and dominated Rough Rock throughout the three sets.

"Everybody played well," said coach Chesney Grantham. "It wasn't a very intense game and the girls played a little flat but they pulled through."

Grantham said the girls had some difficulty keeping their energy up and staying intense during the easily played match, but are focused on winning each game in an attempt to win the section.

"They know each one of these wins is getting us closer and closer to the section title," Grantham said. "So they have that in the back of their heads when they are playing."

The Vikings have four more sectional games to play. Grantham is hoping to end the season at 10-0. The top 16 teams automatically go to the state playoffs.

"Right now we are 16 out of 54 teams (in Division V)," Grantham said. "So if they started today, we would be going."

Grantham said the girls are excited about their placement and are looking forward to the last few games. The final four teams are not ranked high, but are improving each week like the Lady Vikings.

"We have Seligman next week," Grantham said. "And they are improving every game. I've been watching their stats. I remind the girls not to sit back on their heels and expect an easy win. We've seen all these teams at the Ash Fork tournament and just like us they've gotten better and have jelled more as a team."

Grantham said although the girls weren't hitting as well as they have been, she was proud of the consistent play of Kami Batterton and Dara Bowdon. She said they adjusted well to some offset hits. Grantham said Rheanon Koss was tough at the net and Destinee Pennington played well at the libero position.

The Lady Vikings next play in Bagdad Oct. 20.
