WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Williams Middle School Falcons handily won their first game of the season 40-18 against Joseph City on August 21.

The Falcons got off to a big start scoring 40 points in the first quarter. Behind the leadership of quarterback Zayne Grantham, Williams ran for five touchdowns. Three of the touchdowns came from running back Gabral John and two came from Mario Vazquez.

"We came out pretty strong in the beginning," said Falcons Head Coach Tad Wygal. "With 40 points in the first quarter, I was able to make sure everybody got plenty of playing time."

Oryn Orozco and John also ran in for several two-point conversions. Orozco and Omar Romero both recovered fumbles.

"I was pleased that the guys got a lot of reps," Wygal said. "The guys that need it more were in there. Most of the starters only played the first few series."

Wygal was pleased with the play of the Falcons. The team came out strong in the first quarter and the coaching staff was encouraged by the performance of the starters. As the score ran up, Wygal was able to substitute in several second and third string players.

"I tried to put kids in who were much younger, much less experienced," Wygal said, "We were able to still give them all the game time experience that they needed and at the same time make it fun for the fans."

In the second quarter lineman Cody Jensen made a good play when he sacked the Joseph City quarterback.

"I was very pleased with what they got, we looked good when we had the whole starting team in but we looked pretty good when we had all of our second and third string in too," Wygal said. "I was pretty pleased with the whole effort."

Wygal tried to give the Joseph City team a good experience. The second and third string players were evenly matched with the Joseph City team.

Wygal and the rest of the coaching staff is encouraging the community to come out for Friday's games to cheer on the players.

"It's going to be like a double-header," Wygal said. "I hope everybody comes out to watch."
