Letter Carriers food drive May 9

The annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive will take place May 9. Williams residents will receive cards in their mailboxes with instructions about how to participate. Those interested can leave nonperishable food items in or beside their mailbox, and the mail carriers will pick it up on May 9. Food donations can also be left at the Williams Post Office at 120 S. First St. All food collected will go to the Williams Food Bank. Last year the food drive yielded 1,610 pounds of food, and organizers are hoping to collect more this year. Folklorico recital May 9

Williams Folklorico dancers Arcoiris will put on a community recital May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Rodeo Barn. Students will perform dances from the state of Jalisco and Vera Cruz, Mexico. More information is available from Armando or Elva at (928) 380-4637.

Canine Parvo in Williams

Cases of The Canine Parvo Virus have been found in Williams. Parvo is a highly contagious and deadly disease. Please check your vaccination records to make sure your dog is current on its shots. More information is available from your veterinarian or WAAG at (928) 635-2595.

Life After Loss grief support available

Northland Hospice and Palliative Care offers a Life After Loss grief support group every first and third Thursday of the month. The group meets from 4-6 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal-Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grant Ave. The group provides support for those who have experienced the death of a loved one under any circumstance. A Northland Hospice social worker facilitates the meetings and discusses different aspects of grief and coping techniques. The groups are free and registration is not required. Kindergarten registration 2015-2016

Registration packets for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year are available at the Williams Elementary-Middle School office. Parents will need a copy of the student's birth certificate, current immunizations, proof of residency, and $5 activity fee.

Kindercamp registration 2015

Kindercamp is a wonderful program designed to get incoming kindergartners ready for school. This is a free program paid for by the United Way. It will run from Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 26. Space is limited, so parents are encouraged to get their registration returned to the Williams Elementary-Middle School office by May. Students must be registered for the 2015-2016 school year to attend Kindercamp.

Williams hospital clinic celebrates 65th May 12

The Williams Hospital District Board of Directors is celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Williams Hospital/Clinic on May 12 and would like to ask the community for any photographic materials depicting its history.

Any and all images depicting events at the Williams Hospital/Clinic from the 1950s to the present day are welcome for consideration. Original photographic materials with pertinent caption information can be dropped off at the Williams Library during their regular business hours.

The selected original items will be scanned and returned to their owner after May 13.

The selected images will be reproduced and placed on display at the Williams Clinic for its 65th anniversary celebration. Contributors are asked to completely fill out the photo release form with their contact information to ensure their consent and the return of their photographic submissions.

The deadline for submissions is April 10 at 5 p.m.

Chamber seeks parade entrants

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce is seeking entrants for its 2015 Memorial Day Parade. The parade takes place May 23 at 11 a.m. in historic downtown Williams. This year's theme is "Heroes in our Hearts." Entries may include antique and classic cars, equestrian entries, family entries, floats, bikes, golf carts, tractors, ATVs and emergency vehicles. All entry forms should be received no later than May 13. After this date, entrants will be placed in the rear of the parade. More information is available from the chamber at (928) 635-0273.

Balls for Dogs golf tourney May 16

The Balls for Dogs golf tournament takes place May 16 at 9 a.m. at Elephant Rocks Golf Course.

The two man scramble event is $75 per person.

May Fling May 8

SAVE-Meant to Rescue will put on a May Fling for Mother's Day weekend on May 8 from 6-9 p.m. at the Sultana Theater. Boutique Route 66 will provide the fashions and Amanda's Beauty Box will do the hair styling. SAVE-MTR will present a rescue dog parade. Champagne and appetizers will be provided. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds will go to the dog rescue fund. More information is available from Robynn at (928) 635-4726.

Free recreation programs offered

The Williams Recreation Department and Williams Unified School District are offering two free programs to the community.

On Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. high school age and adult basketball will take place in the Williams Elementary-Middle School (WEMS) gym. Skills are required.

On Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. open gym for eighth graders and younger will take place in the WEMS gym. Activities include basketball, volleyball, dodge ball, jump rope and twister.

Kiwanis collecting coats

Winter is here and the Williams Kiwanis Club is sponsoring its annual coat drive. The club especially needs children's coats. The Kiwanis Club gives the coats to the Williams Food Bank for distribution to needy families. Last year the club donated more than 400 coats. Kiwanis started the coat drive Oct. 1 and it will continue through May 1. Those interested in donating may drop off coats at the Williams Recreation Center or at Williams Realty.
