Legion Auxiliary accepting donations for Veterans Hospital Gift Shop Drive

The Williams American Legion Auxiliary is seeking donations for its annual Veterans Hospital Gift Shop Drive. Suggested donations include sweatshirts, sweatpants, men's tube socks, men's underwear, men's and women's pajamas, men's and women's slippers, men's and women's windbreakers, ladies bath sets (no glass please), ladies tops, men's flannel shirts, small appliances, towel sets, blankets and throws. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at the American Legion Hall, 425 W. Grant Ave. All donations must be new, or people can make checks out to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13. Post office has new hours

Starting Oct. 6, the Williams Post Office will have new hours of operation. The post office will be open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The post office is at 120 S. First St. More information is available at (928) 635-4572.

Balloon Rally to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Williams residents can commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month through a balloon rally sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12128 Ladies Auxiliary. The group will sell helium-inflated balloons with personalized tags on them. Then the balloons will all be released in a ceremony dedicated to the strength of cancer patients at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 during the Williams High School varsity football game. Each balloon costs $3. The proceeds will go to the Ladies Auxiliary Cancer Research Fund, which sponsors a $100,000 Postdoctoral Cancer Research Fellowship each year. People can purchase a balloon on Oct. 24 at the National Bank of Arizona or by calling (928) 225-0931.

Scout For Food drive on through Oct. 25

Cub Scout Packs 138 and 140 and Boy Scout Troops 138 and 140 will put on their third annual Scout For Food event this week. Williams residents should look for bags on their front door knobs or front gates by Oct. 24 with instructions for how to donate. Those who wish to contribute should put the bags with their food donations at the end of their driveway or at the front of the house near the street by 9 a.m. on Oct. 25. At that time the scouts will pick up the donations and deliver them to the Williams Food Bank. Any amount of non-perishable food items that families can donate is appreciated.

Canine Safety Seminar Saturday

A Halloween Canine Safety Seminar will take place on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. and Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. at Old Trails, 616 Airport Road. Fawn Richardson will teach kids and adults the proper way to handle themselves when approaching neighborhood dogs on Halloween. More information is available at (928) 635-2591.

Chamber mixer Oct. 31

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce will put on its Halloween mixer on Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. The mixer will take place at the American Legion Cordova Post #13, 425 W. Grant Ave. and will also benefit the organization. A Halloween costume contest will take place with prizes for best male, best female and best couple costume. Williams Fire Department open house Oct. 31

The Williams Fire Department will have an open house on Oct. 31. Station 2 on Rodeo Road will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for those interested in fire prevention tips, free food and a Halloween treat.

Laugh Yoga Wednesdays

The Williams Laugh Synergy Laughter Club will meet for free Humpday Laugh Yoga on Wednesday nights from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Sultana Theater, 305 W. Route 66.

Laughter Yoga is non-political, non-religious and non-competitive. Participants laugh for better health, joy, world peace or no reason at all. It is based on the philosophy of "acting happiness" and is a physically oriented technique, not a mental practice. Laughter is an efficient way to express and release tension in a positive manner.

Rotary Western Auction set for Oct. 25

The Williams Rotary Club is preparing for its 15th annual Western Auction for scholarships on Oct. 25.

The event will take place at Miss Kitty's at the Mountainside Inn. Live music starts at 5 p.m. and a catered dinner starts at 6 p.m. The evening will also include a live auction, costume contest and a grand prize drawing for $5,000.

Big Buck contest on through Jan. 31

A Big Buck contest and raffle is open to all units south of Grand Canyon. The hunter to score the widest buck (outside to outside) will win a PSE Surge Bow with full package.

The contest ends Jan. 31, 2015 and the drawing takes place Feb. 1 at The Outdoor Store.

Folklorico dancing open to community

Folklorico dance classes meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Williams Rodeo Barn. All community members are welcome to attend. More information is available from Armando Padilla at (928) 380-4637.

Dancing Divas practice Friday

The Dancing Divas meet each Friday from 9-10 a.m. at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave.

This free dance group gets together to learn various types of dance such as western, jazz, ethnic and tap.
