Tusayan's Fourth of July celebration fun for all
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - The 36th annual Fourth of July celebration in Tusayan promises family fun for all, featuring a parade, food vendors, face painting, live music and more.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., kids can take part in a variety of old fashioned games, sponsored by Grand Canyon Jeeps, like sack racing and tug of war.
Local food vendors will make sure no one gets hungry by dishing up corn dogs, cotton candy, snow cones and more. Grand Canyon Brewing Company will provide beer.
"We're doing things a little different this year," said Clarinda Vail, one of the event organizers. "We're asking companies to set up a booth and do a minimum of a 50/50 split of their profits with the chamber. It's always been the largest fundraiser of the year for the chamber."
The parade starts at 2:30 p.m., and will head down Highway 64 through Tusayan. This year's Grand Marshal is local resident and District Officer of the Year, Shaun Shields.
"Shaun lives here, he's our Arizona Department of Public Safety officer for our area," Vail said. "We are honored that he accepted our request to be the 2014 Grand Marshal."
The chamber encourages kids to decorate their bikes and be part of the parade.
Bright Angel Bicycling is sponsoring the bike contest and will have decorations on hand.
"We're asking people, any entity, company or individuals to be a part of the parade," Vail said. "They can create a float or drive an old car."
After the parade, Stylus, a six-piece band that plays classic rock and classic R&B, will perform at 3 p.m.
"It is the most fun thing to do for the Fourth of July," Vail said. "I think this year will be particularly fun. So many entities are getting involved and doing everything from stuff for the kids to the band."
Those interested in participating in the parade or reserving a booth can contact Vail at (928) 606-0360.
