GC Phantoms head to state tourney Feb. 21
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Grand Canyon Phantoms boys basketball team beat Red Valley-Cove in the semifinal sectional tournament 76-44 on Feb. 12. Bankston led the way with 28 points and 19 rebounds. Tyler Jones added 18 points and 14 rebounds and Ethan Berry scored 13.
On Feb. 15, the Phantoms fell in the championship game to El Capitan, 46-43.
"It was a very physical game with both teams shooting just 36 percent from the field, Head Coach Dave Beery said. "The difference was behind the three point line as El Capitan made five three point shots, while the Phantoms managed just one."
Bankston led the Phantoms with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Tyler Jones added 14 points.
The Phantoms won't have much time to dwell on the loss however. They play Gila Bend this Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the first round of the AIA Div IV State Tournament. The game is at Yavapai Community College in Prescott.
