PARKS, Ariz. — Two travel trailers and a shed were destroyed when a suspicious fire broke out on April 8 south of Parks. No one was injured in the fire.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officers are investigating the fire, which may have been intentionally started. Fire fighters responded to another fire in the exact same location that destroyed an older travel trailer on Feb. 23.

The fires burned in a lot in the Pineaire subdivision about six miles south of Parks.

In the most recent fire, Ponderosa Fire District Fire fighters responded to a call of a structural and wildland fire at about 1:20 p.m.

“When Ponderosa Fire Dept. personnel arrived on scene they found two fully engulfed fifth wheel travel trailers and a wildland fire that was threatening three adjacent homes,” Ponderosa Fire District Chief Mark Sachara wrote in an email.

The Ponderosa fire fighters, along with crews from Camp Navajo Fire Department and a Kaibab National Forest engine, contained the wildland fire to two acres.

The fire destroyed a shed, a small boat and two trailers that contained recreational equipment. The total damage is estimated at more than $20,000, Sachara said in the email.

Indications are that the fire was human caused. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about either of the two fires is encouraged to call the Coconino County Sheriff’s office at (928) 774-4523 or Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.
