St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, in partnership with Grand Canyon Community Church, will be providing two food distributions this week to help furloughed Grand Canyon and Tusayan workers.

"The park closure has been devastating for the employees of Grand Canyon National Park and surrounding communities," said Rev. Patrick Dotson, pastor of Grand Canyon Community Church. "While local concessionaires are supporting their furloughed employees and their families by providing free rent and limited meal support, we anticipated a great need for food relief outside of our ability to sustain through local food donations. We are so blessed that St. Mary's has come to our aid."

Tomorrow, St. Mary's is sending a truck to the Grand Canyon community from Phoenix with 600 food boxes consisting of 30-40 pounds of household food staples for meal preparation. On Friday they will send another truck to distribute fresh food, including produce and bread. All Grand Canyon and Tusayan employees are eligible to receive food distributions from any location.

Assistance with pharmacy, propane and electric bills will be available during Maswick Lodge distribution hours on a limited basis from the Christian Community Assistance Fund. A local community food drive has also been arranged at the Grand Canyon Recreational Center, and residents may donate food and household items and take those items as needed during normal business hours.

Monetary donations may be sent to the following address, with checks payable to "Christian Community Assistance Fund."

Christian Community Assistance Fund, PO Box 1490, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023-1490.

Donations will help purchase food and other family necessities such as diapers and baby formula, and donations are also being accepted to help with pharmacy, propane and electric bills.
