Letter: Williams will always remain in resident's heart

To the editor,

It is with sadness and gratitude that I write this letter. I moved here with my husband six years ago from San Diego. I am a city girl so you can imagine my reaction the first time I saw elk in my yard!

I didn't know anyone and I was homesick, miserable and unhappy. Things were not the way we thought they were going to be. In spite of my disappointment, I began to get involved in the community and was blessed with the wonderful people I met and now are my treasured friends.

Slowly the homesick feeling started to fade and when we'd go to San Diego to visit, I could hardly wait to get back home to Williams.

My love for this wonderful little town grew more and more every day. I even joked about running for mayor one of these days! However the more I loved being here, San Diego was tugging on my husband to go back. So we are leaving Williams in a few weeks to embark on the next season in our lives. I have learned so much in my time here.

I may have been born and raised in San Diego, but I grew up in Williams. The adversity I faced in the first year is now overshadowed with a sense of belonging and being loved back. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! The memories I will take with me, good and bad, along with the tough lessons I learned will forever be a part of me. I want to say thank you to all of you who opened your hearts and lives to me, accepting and loving me, my husband and many animals. Williams will forever be my "home away from home." I am proud and honored to be a Cal-Zoni! Again I say thank you for sharing this beautiful town with me. I will be forever changed and grateful. Please don't forget me...I'll never forget you!
