Railroad exhibit gets fresh coat of paint
Arizona State Railroad Museum and partners continue work on new exhibit in Glassburn Park
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - The Arizona State Railroad Museum (ASRM) partnered with the City of Williams, Grand Canyon Railway, BNSF, and Camp Navajo to create a railroad exhibit in Glassburn Park using two of the museum's artifacts.
Mike Woskobojnik of Ponderosa Sign put the finishing touches on the cars several weeks ago.
According to Al Richmond, chairman and CEO of ASRM, the museum and the city of Williams are planning to work on landscaping installation and interpretive exhibits when the weather improves.
The army tank car is a memorial to long-time Arizona rail advocate Earl Eisenhower.
"While we were painting the 1918 Army tank Earl Eisenhower passed away," Richmond said. "The memorial on the car honors his service to country, and his work for railroad preservation and passenger service in Arizona."
The boxcar features the logos of the four major Arizona railroads along with the museum and Grand Canyon Railway logos.
"It is interesting to watch folks stopping to take pictures even in the middle of winter," Richmond said. "When I took the boxcar photos, I had to fight for space with one such visitor. That alone made it worthwhile."
The ASRM has not found a permanent home in Williams for its rolling stock valued at $2.7 million.
