The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce will transport Williams residents back to the era of jazz, flappers and Prohibition at its Roaring 20s Speakeasy event.

The event takes place April 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. Grand Canyon Brewing Co., Pine Country Restaurant and the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the 21 and older event, which is a fundraiser for the chamber.

Organizers have truly embraced the theme.

"We're not even disclosing the location, and there's a secret password to get in," said Gioia Goodrum, chamber president and CEO. "We have to be careful, we might get raided by the police."

Attendees will learn the location and secret password to get in when they buy tickets.

Goodrum, who has 10 years of experience as a professional French and Italian chef, will cook for the event, along with Dee Seehorn from Pine Country Restaurant. The two will prepare a five-course meal, including soup, salad, two main courses and dessert. The three will pair four of the courses with beer. Wine will also be available.

Besides the food, attendees can enjoy 20s music and learn how to do the Charleston.

The event will include a costume contest, so event goers are encouraged to dress in 1920s attire.

"We're really looking to make it feel as though you have stepped back in time to the 1920s and experience a speakeasy and what it would be like, the dancing and the music and the food, the alcohol," Goodrum said.

Organizers will have an antique 1931 Chevy for attendees to pose with for pictures.

Attendees will also have a chance to play poker for prizes.

Organizers are keeping some details about the event secret.

"Of course there are some surprises that we can't disclose yet," said Alicia Raecke, interim events coordinator for the chamber.

"Guests can expect an interesting evening to say the least," Goodrum said.

Tickets are $30 per person or $45 per couple and may be purchased at the Williams Visitor Center or RoaringSpeakeasy.Eventbrite.com. More information is available from Raecke at (928) 635-0273.
