Letter: Thanks for supporting Thunder Over Coconino
To the editor:
We would like to thank everyone involved for the terrific turnout at this year's "Thunder Over the Coconino." We had approximately 2,000 people turn up to watch the aircraft and enjoy the vendors, tractors and the 50 beautiful cars in the car show. They were also treated to presentations by both Navajo Code Talkers and a panel of Tuskegee Airmen.
We received tremendous support of both cash and auction items for the silent auction benefiting the Flagstaff Chapter No. 856 of the EAA. Thank you to all the generous donors and to the people that attended the dinner/auction and contributed to the worthy cause while getting a deal on one of the contributions. The Young Eagles pilots flew 67 young people on their free first flight in the hopes of interesting them in a career in aviation.
A special thanks to Willie Collins Jr. who provided us with a spectacular fireworks show at the end of the evening. This is one of the best fireworks shows in Arizona and each year gets better and better. One of the Tuskegee Airmen commented that it was one of the best firework displays he'd ever seen, including Disneyland.
Thanks again for making this event so successful year after year. See you at Thunder Over the Coconino IX next year.
