Rabies clinic March 31

The Williams Animal Action Group (WAAG) is hosting their 27th Annual Rabies Clinic 12-3 p.m. March 31 at the Williams Rodeo Barn.

Rabies vaccinations only will be administered by a veterinarian. Other shots will be available to purchase; owners must administer. Bring your pet's old rabies certificate to help the lines move faster. The cost for dog and cat rabies vaccinations is $7.

City dog licenses will be available for sale. Bring proof of surgery and current rabies vaccination. The cost to license a spayed and neutered dogs is $5 and $25 for fertile dogs. Cat licenses (spayed or neutered only) will be available for $5.

Sick animals cannot be vaccinated. Dogs must be on a leash. Cat carriers are available.

Volunteers needed for egg hunt

Volunteers are needed to assist with the annual Easter egg hunt. The event is scheduled 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 7 at the Williams Recreation Center, 301 W. Railroad Ave.

Community members are needed to set up, organize games, food, prizes and cleanup. The event is organized by Guy Mikkelsen of the Williams Food Bank and the city of Williams Recreation Department. If you can help, email Rose Newbold at rnewbold@williamsaz.gov.

Greater Williams Community Fund announces grant opportunity

The Greater Williams Community Fund (GWCF) invites local community organizations to apply for grant funding, with the application due on April 18.

The GWCF expects to award a total of $7,500 in grants this year, and any organization with nonprofit, 501(3)(c) status serving the greater Williams community is eligible to apply.

Little League tryouts Saturday

Tryouts for Little League Majors and Juniors baseball and softball will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday (weather permitting). If weather is inclement, tryouts will be held at the Ash Fork High Schoolfields. Registrations will also be held at tryouts. Please contact Luci Felton at (928) 266-2479.

Young Life steak dinner Sunday

The Williams Young Life Annual Steak Dinner Fundraiser begins at 5 p.m. Sunday at Young Life's Lost Canyon, 1450 Perkinsville Rd.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12 and ages 3 and under eat free. Table reservations for eight are $55. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Friends need volunteers

The Friends of the Williams Aquatic Center (FWAC) is looking for volunteers to serve on their board of directors. Elections for two board members will take place at 6:30 p.m. on March 19 at the Williams Recreation Center, 301 W. Railroad Ave. The positions are open to all residents from surrounding communities who are at least 18-years-old. Volunteers don't need to be a swimmer, just a person with a passion to help the community.

The board usually meets once a month from March through September in order to plan and hold fundraisers. FWAC's goal this year is to raise funds to help replace the PoolPak (climate control system). Additional funding may be obtained from grants. The mission of FWAC is to see the Aquatic Center returned to year-round operations.

SADD yard sale benefits WAAG

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is having a yard sale 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at Walker Hall, corner of Second and Grant. Proceeds will benefit the Williams Animal Action Group (WAAG), who offers low cost spay and neuters throughout the year. WAAG is also offering its annual rabies clinic March 31.

Pet Portrait sessions March 31

Obtain a photo of your pet and help SAVE-Meant to Rescue 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 31 at the Williams Rodeo Grounds office building, corner of Airport and Rodeo roads. Pictures will come with a card stock frame. All proceeds benefit SAVE. For more information, call Amber at 606-7650.

Enchilada fundraiser March 31

An enchilada sale is being held as a fundraiser to help Kailey Jensen move to Kenya. Jensen hopes to work with street children and orphans. She is sponsored by First Baptist Church of Williams.

Pre-order by the whole dozen by March 27. The enchiladas will be available for pickup 11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 31 at First Baptist Church, 629 W. Grant Ave. The enchiladas are being made by Lydia Perkins.

A yard sale will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. March 31 at First Baptist. Proceeds will benefit Jensen.

Scouts collecting food next week

The local scouting units (Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts) will appreciate everyone's help in their service project to benefit the Williams Food Bank. During the week of March 26-30, the scout units will be distributing bags to the residences of Williams with instructions to place food donations in the bags. Look for these bags on the front door knob, or attached to the front gate. The bags with donated food should be placed at the end of the driveway, or front of the house near the street by 10 a.m. on the morning of March 31.

Any amount of food that families can donate will be appreciated. Types of food requested for donation are non-perishable food, such as canned goods, packaged mixes, etc.

All food collected will be used by the Williams Food Bank for local distribution.

Collecting the food donations will be Boy Scout Troop 138 and Cub Scout Pack 138, Boy Scout Troop 140, Cub Scout Pack 140, and Girl Scout Troop 2616 - Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadets. The scouts look forward to collecting food.

Kindergarten registration April 9

Kindergarten registration and screening for those attending the 2012-2013 school year is scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. April 9 at Williams Elementary-Middle School, 601 N. Seventh St. Please call Mrs. Dukeman at 635-4428, ext. 316 to schedule an appointment.

The screening will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Please bring a certified copy of your child's birth certificate and immunization records at the time of the scheduled appointment. A child must be age 5 by Aug. 31, 2012 in order to be considered for kindergarten placement during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Preschool screening April 9

Williams Public Schools will be screening preschool children between the ages of 3 to 5 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Williams Elementary-Middle School (WEMS), 601 N. Seventh St.

The purpose of the preschool screening is to identify children with special needs. Any preschooler who is having difficulty in the areas of vision, speech, language, coordination, movement, or learning are recommended for screening. Children showing significant problems in the above mentioned areas on the screening would then be recommended for further evaluation by the district special education staff. Those children identified as having handicapping conditions would then be eligible to receive special education services/therapy, tuition-free, through the district developmental preschool program located at WEMS.

The special needs qualification process begins with the Child Find screening and may be extended to include a developmental and psycho-educational evaluation. Enrollment as a special needs student cannot occur until all steps of the process have been concluded.

You will need to bring a certified copy of your child's birth certificate and immunization records at the time of the scheduled appointment for your child's preschool screening.
