Letter: Precious gem found in Williams
To the editor:
Did you know that we have an oasis, a gem, a peaceful place to be right in downtown Williams? It's our city of Williams Library! When you first walk in you find a welcoming, bright, and airy open space with lots of windows allowing for natural lighting. The majority of the library is graced with open, a-frame ceilings, which also allows for a residential-like atmosphere. Not only is there a wide selection of books, including an Arizona collection, but books on CD's, VHS and DVDs for rental, with 17 computer stations and Wi-Fi available. The library also has a delightful children's section with a coloring table, easy readers and non-fiction books as well.
Besides the city of Williams, who do we have to thank for this beautiful library? Andrea Dunn, Library Director. She is the jewel in the center of this show place. Not only did she successfully write a grant for expansion, she wrote two, and grant writing is not an easy task. Neither is the tedious and detail-oriented job of running a library. But Andrea does it with patience, and with extensive knowledge of books in her catalogue, including prolific and popular authors.
Andrea's personality is reflected in her library. There are many atlases, plants, and other personal touches that make you feel at home. A few rockers or easy chairs are available to sit in and read the paper or peruse through a travel magazine. She is a delightful person to talk to and never hesitates to take the time to personalize each patron's needs. She is also one of a philanthropic nature, and being in the hub of our citizens, takes the time to help others when she can. This is a place where you might run in to neighbors, friends, or co-workers. It allows you a feeling of belonging to this town in which we live. Don't hesitate to stop by and meet Andrea and admire her very noteworthy accomplishments for such a small, but great community. Who knows, you might even end up checking out a book.
