College Goal Sunday helps students with financial aid questions

Event will be held Saturday in Flagstaff, Sunday in Page

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - There are millions of dollars available to help students pay for college, and Saturday there is a free and easy way for students and families to apply for those funds. Coconino Community College (CCC) is hosting College Goal Sunday "Saturday edition" on Saturday at the CCC Lone Tree Campus, and College Goal Sunday "Sunday edition" on Sunday at the CCC Page Campus.

"College Goal Sunday is an event where CCC and NAU financial aid staff partner to help students complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2012-13 academic year, regardless of the college a student wants to attend" said CCC Financial Aid Director Bob Voytek. "We can help you figure out how much money you qualify for to pay for college. It is very important to complete the FAFSA as early as possible (preferably now), so that you maximize your financial aid funding."

Financial aid officials say students and parents should bring their 2011 federal tax returns, W-2 forms and other 2011 income information. If you are age 23 or younger, single and have no dependents, bring a parent. Parents can attend with their students, or they can come in place of their students. If you are age 24 or older, married or have dependents, you can attend without a parent.

"If you haven't completed your 2011 federal income tax return yet, you should still attend. You can estimate your income and then go back later and change your form when you have completed your taxes," said Voytek.

College Goal Weekend is taking place in 30 locations across Arizona next weekend including Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at CCC's Flagstaff Lone Tree campus located at 2800 S. Lone Tree Dr. College Goal Sunday will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday at CCC's Page campus located at 475 S. Lake Powell Blvd.
