Williams resident Jessie Medeiros believes in angels. And miracles. Medeiros recently finished a collection of stories told to her by her family, friends and acquaintances about encounters with other worldy beings. She spent two years writing and compiling the book.

"Everything in this book happened to someone. They are all true stories," Medeiros said. "Some people believe in angels, some people believe in miracles, and I believe in both. I've had experiences with both, and my kids have had experiences with both."

"Angels and Miracles" is now available on Amazon.com. It is the first book Medeiros has published.

The 87-year-old long-time Williams resident began writing seriously when she was 62 years old. After she was told her writing wasn't good enough, Medeiros put the autobiography she was working on on hold for five long years. After finishing "Angels and Miracles," Medeiros is now once again back to writing her life story.

"I got back into writing when I retired in 1992. I started writing my personal miracles and my daughters' miracles," said Medeiros. "Then other people started telling me about their experiences, and that's how this book got started."

The book describes Medeiros's encounter with Sue Casart. Casart and Medeiros met at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Williams when Casart was visiting the small mountain town from her home in Omaha, Neb.

Casart told Medeiros a story about a trip she took with her sister in 1990 to Yugoslavia. On a bright, clear day the two sisters took pictures of St. James Church in Medjugorje. When Casart developed the film, three figures appeared in the picture that were not there the day of the photograph. The pictures grace the front cover of "Angels and Miracles."

In her book, Medeiros writes the pictures are proof of "encounters with something bigger than what our minds can comprehend, about angels and miracles."

From five little girls dressed in red and white party dresses that only one woman could see and talk to - until her children finally saw for themselves - to a baby's footprints inexplicably appearing on a mirror in front a mother's eyes, "Angels and Miracles" contains numerous awe-inspiring and thought provoking moments.

The back of the book features a photograph taken by two local Williams women, Ramona Martinez and Sue Allen. Both school bus drivers, the women were together on one bus driving north of Williams the day they took the photo. On their way to pick up school children, the women noticed a face in the clouds smiling above them. They immediately stopped and snapped a picture. Martinez felt it was a sign. She had just buried her brother the day before.

Before finishing "Angels and Miracles," Medeiros joined the Northern Arizona Authors Association. Cosette Riggs, a member of the authors group and friend to Medeiros, helped her publish Angels and Miracles through her publishing company Inspired Originals.

"She [Medeiros] did all her own editing, and I published it. It's on Amazon and Createspace," said Riggs, who started Northern Arizona Authors Association with fellow author Gary McCarthy. "I'm a writer myself of course. And sometimes I want to stop publishing because I just want to write, but I have so many people that need help publishing so I'm just growing this business."

Riggs released "Angels and Miracles" Oct. 22. Medeiros is currently working on her autobiography and also has new stories of angels and miracles to add to a second volume or an expanded version of "Angels and Miracles."

Author, screenwriter and director David Seals said Medeiros is about the last person he would expect to talk about paranormal visions.

"But her tales of ghosts or angels, or whatever you want to call them, in her Catholic church, and all around the lovely mountains not far from the Grand Canyon, and Sedona's famous vortexes, are made all the more believable and convincing for those very reasons," he said. "Because she is not a 'New Age' guru or anything close to it, she and her book are 'right there;' that is, she is one of the most authentic, unpretentious, faithful witnesses to the 'Shamanic Dreamtime' of the other world that I have ever heard or read. A real gem that should be read by anyone serious about the truth of the magical, mysterious, after-death world existing all the time right here, right beside us."

Medeiros was born in El Paso, Texas and arrived in Williams when she was two months old. She has two daughters, Chris Franceen and Lori Ann.
