Tusayan Community Park Ribbon Cutting
The town of Tusayan will put on a ribbon cutting ceremony Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. for the community park. Refreshments will be available. More information is available by contacting Tami Ryall (928) 638-9909.
Afternoon tea and cookies
Those older than 17 who enjoy the conversation and company of others are invited to relax with a cup of tea and cookies at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17 in the board room of the Recreation Center. The event is free.
Phoenix shopping trip
Participants can do some holiday shopping at two of the state's larger malls: Arizona Mills and Fashion Square. The trip fee is $40 per person and includes transportation only. Van space is limited and attendees should pay in advance to reserve a seat. Participants should meet in the lobby of the Rec Center at 6:45 a.m. Dec. 18 and bring a watch and spending money.
Holiday cookie bake off
The rec center invites bakers to share their best holiday cookie creations and compete against other bakers. The bake off starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at the fireplace lobby in the Rec Center. The winners will take home a variety of prizes. Bakers should register with the Rec Center at least 24 hours before the competition. Participation is free.
An evening in Flagstaff
Participants can get away from the Canyon and enjoy a relaxing dinner, movie or shopping in Flagstaff. The trip fee is $15 per person and includes transportation only. Van space is limited and attendees should pay in advance to reserve a seat. Participants should meet in the Rec Center lobby at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 19 and bring a watch and spending money.
Friday night flix
This week's featured movie is "The Bourne Legacy." The film is rated PG-13 and stars Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz and Joan Allen. The Rec Center will provide free lemonade and popcorn to the viewing audience. The free event starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 in the multipurpose room of the Rec Center.
Karaoke planet, Christmas edition
Participants can display their singing talents at this Grand Canyon tradition. Attendees may bring their own music or choose from the songs in the Rec Center's karaoke library. Those submitting Internet songs should be prepared with the specific Internet address. The free event starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 22 in the multipurpose room of the Rec Center.
