Public input sought on draft plan to protect structures across the Kaibab Plateau

FREDONIA, Ariz. - The Forest Service is seeking public input on a draft plan to protect facilities across the Kaibab Plateau from the threat of fire. The facilities include commercial and administrative buildings, communication sites, and historic structures.

The draft environmental assessment for the Plateau Facility Fire Protection Project was released this week, with a 30-day comment period that began on March 28.

The project proposes mechanical thinning treatments and prescribed burning on about 5,000 acres combined from the various sites across the district. Work would take place over the next two to three years.

Project descriptions and planning documents are available on the Kaibab National Forest web site at http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/kaibab/landmanagement/projects.

Comments can be sent via email to comments-southwestern-kaibab-north-kaibab@fs.fed.us. Please include "Plateau Facility Fire Protection Project Preliminary EA" in the subject line. Comments can also be mailed or delivered in person to the North Kaibab Ranger District office at PO Box 248 / 430 S Main Street in Fredonia, Arizona 86022.
