Ponderosa firefighters deliberately burn barn
Structure utilized for live fire training
PARKS, Ariz. - Firefighters from the Ponderosa Fire Department (PFD) conducted "live fire" training on Oct. 1 to provide new members an opportunity to experience fire in a real building. A small barn in Garland Prairie was beyond repair and the owners wanted to demolish it.
PFD Chief Mark Sachara said that donated structures are an excellent training ground for firefighters to practice many skills in a real building and this is cost saving for the owner. Before the live burn, a structure can be used for forcible entry practice and search drills.
Property owners planning demolition work are encouraged to contact the PFD (928) 773-8933 if their property might be suitable for firefighter training.
