Temporary road closures and delays expected near South Rim entrance today
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Three trailers will be brought into the park today for delivery to Pinyon Park. These oversized trailers will be entering the park via the South Entrance at approximately 10 a.m. (barring weather delays). As the trailers travel through the park to their destination, some temporary road closures and traffic delays are anticipated:
Employee bypass lane - will be temporarily close for up to 30 minutes.
South Entrance Road - will remain open. Delays are expected as the trailers enter from the bypass lane and turn onto Center Road. In addition, traffic is expected to move slowly behind the trailers.
Center, Albright and Muav - will be temporarily closed for up to 15 minutes each.
Hualapai - will be temporarily closed for up to 30 minutes. (Please, note: this closure may block access to Mather, Kolb, Hopi, and Pima for up to 30 minutes.)
Powell - will be temporarily closed for up to an hour at more than one location.
It is expected that most of Pinyon Park will be accessible during the trailer installations. Powell Street will be the most heavily impacted with multiple closures of up to an hour possible.
Drivers should be advised to allow extra time when driving these roads and to watch for and obey signs and traffic control personnel.
