WILLIAMS - Excitement is in the air as preparations wrap up for Memorial Day weekend events - the traditional kick-off to summer - with lots of great family activities.

Although the Buckskinners of Williams will not be hosting their Rendezvous Event in Buckskinner Park this year there are still plenty of fun activites on tap for the whole family. The long running Memorial Day Parade is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Saturday and you won't have trouble finding a good seat as the parade route goes right through downtown on Route 66. This year's theme is "Honoring our Heroes."

After you work up a hunger from watching the parade, stop by the Williams Recreation Center for a great meal. The Williams 4-H group will be cooking up their delicious barbecue lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults' meals are $7.50 and meals for children 10 and under are $4.50. All of the proceeds benefit the local 4-H Club.

Smokey the Bear will also be on hand at the recreation center as the Kaibab National Forest presents the "Forest Discovery Fair" with games and activities and interactive booths on archeology, geology, forest recreation and safety and wildlife. Look for the 30 foot tall inflatable Smokey the Bear.

The city of Williams and Friends of the Aquatic Center are pleased to announce that Saturday also marks the the opening day of the Williams Aquatic Center for the summer months.

The American Legion Cordova Post No. 13 has invited everyone to their Veterans Memorial Service on Monday at the Williams Cemetery. This special remembrance of our country's veterans will begin at 11 a.m.

If all these events aren't enough, Williams comes alive with live entertainment throughout downtown this weekend. Look for the Cataract Creek Gang as they perform their nightly Wild West shoot out on the streets of Williams. The patios of many of the local restaurants are open for business and providing live entertainment for your enjoyment.
