There are different options customers can chose when spray tanning, including bathing suit, disposables, or nude. Most adults, De Angelis said, chose the nude option.

First, De Angelis sprays a PH balancing solution on the body in order to neutralize the skin. Then, she goes over drier areas like the elbows, cuticles and heels with barrier cream. After the pre-tanning routine starts the actual tanning process, usually approximately 20 minutes. The tan lasts about seven to 10 days, and can be prolonged by using "extender products," over-the-counter tanning moisturizers.

"The tanning solution comes in different degrees of darkness, most people like dark," she said.

De Angelis feels that spray tanning gives people a different option. People are more conscious about skin care nowadays, and sunless tanning is a way to be safe. The tanning solution is 100 percent UV safe and approved by the FDA.

"I have a lot of clients that come and tell me they have had scares with cancer," De Angelis said. "This gives them the benefits of a UV tan, without the danger."
