WILLIAMS - The Greater Williams Community Fund announced their 2011 Grant Recipients on June 17, during the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce mixer at Wild West Junction. Friends of the Williams Aquatic Center (FWAC) were awarded a $500 grant for their proposal to extend the 2011 swimming season. FWAC also received the Kevin Twitty Award as special recognition for their efforts.

FWAC was formed in response to the pool closure in January 2010. In their first year of establishment, they became a non-profit organization and have held four fundraisers - the Ducky Egg Race and golf tournaments in 2010 and 2011. Monies raised from those events combined with other donations and the $500 Greater Williams Community Fund grant will be used to extend the swimming season this year.

FWAC has committed $5,500 toward the swimming season extension and is working with the city of Williams to get final operating costs in order to determine just how long the extension will be. FWAC will be making a presentation of their findings at the Williams City Council meeting tomorrow.
