Letter: Attend tomorrow's meeting on uranium mining
To the editor:
On behalf of the Canyon Country Coalition for Responsible Renewable Energy (CCCRRE) and Save Our Wide Open Spaces (SOWOS), we would like to thank the members of the Williams community and Route 64 corridor for the tremendous turnout at the Coconino County Planning and Zoning hearing on Dec. 16. Despite the bad weather and the holiday season, we filled the hearing and the number of letters sent in was remarked on by Mr. Bill Towler as exceeding expectations.
The Coalition Organizations have filed an appeal of the zoning decision to the Coconino County Board of Supervisors. Please watch the websites for updates, and hearing dates.
In a related issue, this Thursday, Jan. 6, there is a public hearing in Flagstaff at 6 p.m. at Sinagua Middle School on uranium mining in the Grand Canyon area. One of the mines under consideration is located just south of Valle, and uranium trucks will be traveling down Route 64 to Interstate 40 transporting uranium. We encourage you to attend and let the ADEQ know that you are against this industrialization of the 64 corridor and threat to the Colorado watershed.
