Invention Convention a hit
WILLIAMS - The Invention Convention, featuring the inventions of students, grades sixth through eighth, was held Feb. 10 in the Williams Elementary-Middle School (WEMS) gymnasium.
The contest's intent is to encourage creativity and problem solving skills among students. Participants in the program identify a need or solve a problem by following the same steps and patent application procedures that an inventor would follow in patenting an invention.
Students in Ms. Wengreen's science classes spent six weeks designing, building, and testing their inventions which were presented in front of a panel of judges.
Judges rated the inventions on a variety of factors, including how well the invention addresses a problem, how thoroughly the invention was researched, and how well the invention was designed and constructed.
Jessyka Wengreen, contest organizer and science teacher was pleased with the student's achievements.
"The invention convention was a huge success this year, she said. "This year there were more awards, each grade had a first through third place award."
