WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Three city of Williams Council seats are up for election March 13 along with the position of mayor. As of Dec. 13, the opportunity to submit paperwork is over. Craig Fritsinger and Bobby Patricca along with incumbents Frank McNelly and James Wurgler have all committed to run for the three open council seats, while Mayor John Moore has filed the required paperwork to run for a third term. He will be running against former mayor Ken Edes.

"It's quite possible that if one candidate running for mayor gets a clear majority then everything will be determined in the primary in March and we won't have to go into May elections," Town Clerk Susan Kerley said.

Seats held by councilmen James Wurgler, Frank McNelly and Bill Miller are up for re-election. Mayor John Moore also faces an election campaign.

Council members are elected for a four-year term with the mayor elected for just two years.

Candidate packets including petitions and paperwork to declare candidacy for mayor or council became available Nov. 14.

Candidates are required to gather a minimum of 18 signatures from citizens endorsing their candidacy. That number equals five percent of the number of voters for mayor in the last election.

Those without a clear majority of votes in the March 13 primary must run again in a May election to determine a final winner of a contested seat.

If there is no more paperwork submitted to the city chambers, interested parties have until Feb. 4 to be a write-in candidate.
