WILLIAMS - Clear your schedule for this Sunday and be sure to make the ninth annual Community Dinner part of your holiday plans this year. Whether you plan to attend, volunteer or donate towards the event, you'll be certain to bring a smile to someone in need.

Take part in this community tradition, held at Doc Holliday's Steakhouse at 950 N. Grand Canyon Blvd., from noon-4 p.m., and experience what the holidays are all about. A complimentary festive feast will be dished up, guaranteeing something for everyone including, ham, turkey, dressing, potatoes, vegetables, salad, rolls and cookies.

"Kiwanis started the event nine years to provide for those in need a free meal and a nice atmosphere for the community and gifts for the kids," Carol Glassburn said, who has been organizing the event since it's inception. "It wasn't long before other service clubs in the community jumped in to help us."

This Saturday, volunteers from the community will take over Doc Holliday's kitchen to prepare 30 turkeys, 15 hams along with all the trimmings.

"We will have real mashed potatoes," Glassburn said. "We actually peel 400 potatoes."

And peeling 400 potatoes is no easy task. Serving 650 people takes around 30 volunteers at the least, and Glassburn said they always welcome any help they can get. Volunteers are needed to help cook, donate, serve, help in the kitchen or bake cookies for dessert.

There is plenty of time to enjoy the holiday dinner, so no need to arrive right at noon, Glassburn added.

The Williams Fire Department will bring Santa along for the festivities with gifts for children along with photo ops for keepsakes.

During the dinner there will be several raffles for children, one of which will feature 10 donated bicycles as prizes for different age groups.

Don't miss this great opportunity to be part of the community and celebrate the holiday season, sponsored by all service clubs and organizations of Williams.

"Just come on over and have a wonderful holiday meal," Glassburn added. "If you can help volunteer, bake cookies, we just need all the help we can get,"
