Editorial: Clean up Williams on Saturday
Our annual community spring cleanup day is Saturday. Cleanup volunteers are asked to report to the Williams-Forest Service Visitor Center parking lot, 200 W. Railroad Ave., at 9 a.m. Williams Clean and Beautiful volunteers will be on hand to assign areas needing attention. Free coffee and donuts will be available to all. Arizona Public Service will cruise through town offering soda and water to volunteers. The day ends at noon with a barbecue lunch - donated by Cruiser's and prepared by the American Legion - featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and sodas.
Westech Recyclers is providing a community electronics pickup 9 a.m.-noon at the Williams Rodeo Barn. Electronics and electronic waste can be left free of charge.
Also on that day, load up old tires and bring them to the transfer station. Tires off the rims will be accepted for free disposal 9 a.m.-noon. No large or off road tires will be accepted. Only automobile tires will be accepted.
CamDan Recycling will be at the rodeo grounds 8 a.m.-1 p.m. to collect large and small appliances, hot water heaters, auto batteries, tires and old newspapers. A scrap metal buyer will be on site to buy copper, aluminum, brass, electrical wire, electric motors, tin and steel in four-foot lengths or shorter, aluminum and steel auto wheels, transmissions drained of fluids, alternators, starters and engine blocks.
Through May 7, the city of Williams, in conjunction with Williams Clean and Beautiful, is picking up appliances at no cost. To schedule pickup, call City Hall at (928) 635-4451. The appliance must be placed in front of your residence, as close to the curb as possible, but not in the street.
We encourage all to participate in cleanup day in some way. And everyone doesn't necessarily have to go to cleanup day headquarters at the visitor center to participate. Clean up your own yard. Take down those Christmas lights. Help a neighbor. It doesn't take much time or effort to make our community a cleaner, more inviting place to visit.
