WILLIAMS - After a season long dry spell, the JV Lady Vikings volleyball team beat Valley Sanders Oct. 1 to win their first match in three games 25-23, 21-25 and 15-5.

Head Coach Jennifer Carter said her younger players continue to progress and hone their skills.

"They really did an awesome job," she said. "We're seeing improvement all around on the JV team."

Carter said Korinna Rotter put in a solid serving performance.

"Every time she came up, it seemed she served for a ton of points," Carter said.

Devin McNelly came through offensively as well, serving for 12 points in the last game of the match.

The Lady Vikings varsity squad did not fare as well, although they did win the first two games of a five game match before Valley Sanders shut them down for the win with scores of 25-21, 25-20 21-25, 12-25 and 4-15.

"Valley is about ten spots higher than us in the power rankings, so we knew it was going to be a tough game," Carter said. "Our girls came out to play. No mistakes. Everything was in. They were doing a great job and then, I don't know what happened. Things started to not go our way and things started to fall apart. It seemed that they would get runs on us right at the beginning and it was a fight to come back and we could just never come back."

The Lady Vikes take on Seligman for homecoming Friday at 4 p.m.
