Sanders arrested; remains discovered near Seligman likely those of missing mom
WILLIAMS - Steven "Spider" Sanders was arrested Nov. 14 for the abduction of Lexi Roberts. He was found at the Flying J Truck Stop by Gulfport FBI Agents of the Jackson Division and Harrison County Sheriff's Deputies.
Sanders was being sought on federal kidnapping charges obtained in the Western District of Louisiana for the abduction of Lexis Kaye Roberts, age 12, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Information gathered from FBI agents led Yavapai County Sheriff's Officers to a body that may be the girl's mother, Suellen Roberts.
Deputies located the body Monday morning in an area off Interstate 40 and Jolly Road near Seligman, said Dwight D'Evelyn, spokesman for the Sheriff's Dept.
Evidence found near the body caused searchers to believe the remains are those of the missing 31-year-old mother, D'Evelyn said.
The body's identity has yet to be confirmed by the medical examiner. An autopsy will be performed soon to officially determine whether the body is that of Suellen Roberts and also the cause of her death.
Last month, hunters found Lexis Roberts' skeleton near Harrisonburg, La.
According to D'Evelyn, Coconino County detectives, along with the FBI, are trying to determine whether Sanders is linked to the death of Suellen Roberts, D'Evelyn said.
The mother and daughter were last seen at Bearizona in Williams on Sept. 4, where they signed a guest register at the local wildlife attraction. Family members reported the Roberts family missing Sept. 8.
