Junior Division Team No.1 continues to dominate competition
Homeruns and strong pitching contribute to wins
WILLIAMS - Williams Juniors Team No. 1 improved their record May 8 to 6-0 while Junior Team No. 2 fell to 1- 5. Williams No. 1 first took on Page Team No. 1 with a final score of Williams 12 Page 2. Joaquin Salaz pitched for Williams and had 6 strikeouts and improved his pitching record to 2-0. Kohl Nixon, Jorge Davalos and Joaquin Salaz all went 3 for 4 batting.
In the second game, Williams No. 1 took on Page No. 2. Williams dominated the match-up, coming out on top 12-5. Nixon pitched for a record nine strikeouts, improving his pitching record to
3-0. Williams' bats were hot again with Ethan Berry hitting a home run, Davalos hitting two homeruns and Nixon and Daniel Solberg each hitting a ground rule double. Davalos entered the game in the last two innings as a relief pitcher and recorded four stikeouts.
Williams Team No. 2 took on Page No. 2 losing the first game 13-6. They then took on Page No. 1 losing that game with a final score of 12-2.
Williams Juniors Team No. 1 improved to 8-0 for the season after two wins this weekend. Williams Juniors Team No. 2 fell to 1-7 after two losses this weekend.
Williams No. 1 took on the Continental Red Sox Friday night in Flagstaff with a final score of Williams 13, Red Sox 3. Joaquin Salaz pitched for Williams improving his pitching record to 3- 0. Kohl Nixon went 3- 3 at the plate including a long homerun over the fence. Jorge Davalos, Damon Alvarado and Daniel Solberg also hit the ball very well with all going 3-4 at the plate.
On Saturday, Williams No. 1 took on Williams No. 2 with Williams No. 1 coming out on top 20-0. Kohl Nixon pitched a no hit shutout for Williams, improving his pitching record to 4-0.
Head Coach Herman Nixon said his team's offense really shined.
"I can't point out one or two hitters in this game since all of our players hit the ball very well," he said. "We did have some good defense from Jorge Davalos at third base and Colton Grantham at second base. Jorge and Colton both made terrific plays to keep Kohl's no hitter in place."
Williams No. 2 took on Flagstaff Team No. 2 on Friday night in Flagstaff with a final score of Williams 5, Flagstaff 12.
