GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Leah Sobsey lives in Greensboro, N.C., where she teaches at both the University of North Carolina and at the Center for Documentary Studies, in Durham. Sobsey has her undergraduate degree from Guilford College in Greensboro in anthropology, and her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute. She is also an award-winning artist with an extensive exhibit and residency experience, including working at the Vermont Studio Center on a fellowship, and solo and group shows around the United States.

While in-residence, Sobsey will present an evening program artist talk on Thursday. The evening program will focus on her past work as well as the work she intends to do while here in-residence. The evening programs are at 8 p.m. at Shrine of the Ages, and are fun and informal all-ages programs.

Sobsey will also be conducting a two-day workshop with the high school year book class, at the Grand Canyon School, introducing the students to the idea of mixed-media photography using both dark room techniques and sun-sensitive photo paper. While in-residence, Sobsey will be spending time in the NPS herbarium, researching local flora for her nature-inspired series, Specimens, and hiking the rim, collecting images to use in-studio.
