WILLIAMS - The Lady Vikings junior varsity team took on Ash Fork's varsity ball team in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Head Coach Edgar Brown said the girls didn't initially come out ready to play but picked up steam over the course of the games.

"They started off really slow at first," Brown said.

The Lady Vikes were able to generate two runs in the first inning. Ash Fork responded with 11 runs of their own.

Brown said after the first inning the Lady Vikes gradually made a comeback.

"Our girls just kept picking away and picking away," he said. "We had a very good batting practice the Thursday before the games," Brown said. "All the girls were putting the bat on the ball and creating something. The girls were sluggish with the fielding at first and then they picked it up and got comfortable playing and that's what made us come back."

The game was called at the one hour and 45 minute mark due to time after the completion of six innings with the Lady Vikes losing 12-13. Brown said if the game had gone to seven innings, the Lady Vikes would likely have come out on top.

In the second game of the day, the Lady Vikes picked up where they left off, winning 19-9.

"They came out that second game and played very well," Brown said. "They had them 4-1 after the first inning and never looked back."

Natasha Quasula pitched both games for the Lady Vikings.
