Ponderosa Fire hires new chief
Sachara
BELLEMONT - Ponderosa Fire District hired Mark Sachara as the district's new Fire Chief. The community was introduced to the new chief at a badge pinning ceremony hosted by the PFD on Feb. 13 at the Bellemont Fire Station.
Those attending included community members, Ponderosa volunteers, area fire chiefs, and personnel from other local emergency service agencies. During the ceremony, Chief Sachara recognized the volunteer fire fighters as the "backbone" of the district. Ed Mays, who was acting chief during the selection process, was thanked by the PFD for his dedication to the department and the community. Chief Sachara has an extensive background in the fire services dating back to 1975. His dedication to the fire services began with volunteering at Mountaninaire Fire Department. He also worked seasonally for the US Forest Service and eventually retired from the Flagstaff Fire Department with 29 years of service. Chief Sachara's degrees include Fire Science and Forestry.
Some of Chief Sachara's plans for the fire district include community outreach, improving response times by increasing membership, hiring a full-time firefighter, and modernizing record system management. Chief Sachara says he is privileged to serve the Ponderosa Fire District and welcomes the challenge.
