SNOW UPDATE: Snow closures at the Canyon
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Due to a severe weather system moving through the area, all visitor centers and Grand Canyon Association bookstores in Grand Canyon National Park will be closing at 2:30 p.m. today (Jan. 21) and not re-opening until 9 a.m. tomorrow. Interstate 40, south of the Grand Canyon, is scheduled to close at 6 p.m. With the visitor centers closed, the rest of today's ranger programs, including tonight's evening program at the Shrine of the Ages, and any programs scheduled to occur before 9 a.m. tomorrow have been cancelled. These measures are being taken in order to discourage park staff and visitors from unnecessarily venturing out into the storm. Shuttle service at the Grand Canyon was also cancelled at 3 p.m. A delayed start is expected for shuttle services Jan. 22.
Grand Canyon School scheduled an early release today as well, with classes finishing at 3 p.m. After school activities and sports, including middle school games, were cancelled for the weekend.
