Sheriffs arrest two for burglaries in Tusayan
$10,000 in damage is estimated

TUSAYAN, Ariz - On Jan. 12, the Coconino County Sherriff's Office received a call for service of a burglary in progress at the Holiday Inn in Tusayan. The reporting party was able to describe and tentatively identify a male and female to the Emergency Communication Specialists who received the call. Several deputies responded from the Williams Substation and one of them asked the dispatcher to alert National Park Service Law Enforcement Officers for an "Attempt to Locate."

The responding deputies learned that National Park Service Officers had secured several rooms of the Holiday Inn Employee Housing area where the suspects were believed to be. Upon their arrival deputies knocked on the door of one of the rooms and were allowed to enter the room by an uninvolved third party. Upon searching the room deputies found 19-year-old Mary Jo Davis and 20-year-old Charles Jonathan Monroe, both of the Grand Canyon, hiding in the room.

Investigation revealed that the two forcibly entered or attempted to enter and damaged approximately 10 rooms. It is also believed that Davis and Monroe damaged and committed theft from a coin operated vending machine. Property managers for the Holiday Inn estimate the damage to be as high as $10,000.

As a result of statements made by witnesses and one of the arrestees, as well as physical evidence found at the scene of the crime, investigating deputies established probable cause to arrest Davis and Monroe on multiple counts of Burglary and Felony Criminal Damage.
